Slipped & Fell In Love

I could not be more proud of where I come from.

Every morning, when I step outside, I know this is what I'm good at, this is what I enjoy, & this is what's preparing me for my future.

It's teaching me how to suck-it-up, work a little harder, sweat a little more, & to embrace the journey.

Fire & Rain

Sunday night we had a big storm & lightning struck a tree, catching it on fire, which we did not learn about until Monday afternoon...
My mom & I were in town Monday, but my sister & dad were here; thank goodness.

The firefighters, forest service, & neighbors all came out to assist, bringing the helicopter & the bulldozer to help with our situation. They immediately had things under control & then left the next day (Tuesday) around 7:30 at night; just a little too soon.

The wind had picked up & what the fire crew thought was out, took off again down a draw.

Fortunately, there was a big rain shower that helped put some of the grass out! The firefighters came back out & by Wednesday afternoon, the entire fire was out.

A big THANK YOU to ALL of the firefighters fighting to keep everyone safe! Your service is greatly appreciated & highly taken for granted!

Never overlook your neighbor! They are the ones who will drop everything & come help. A big thank you to them as well! We are so incredibly blessed to have such great people surrounding us.

I also thank God for protecting us & all of the animals that were in that pasture, & sending rain to help put the fire out! Thankfully, no one got hurt.

The fire ended up burning a total of about 190 acres in our mare's pasture, as well as one of the winter pastures, for our cows.

Fire photo credit to my mama! I just stole her camera for the rain photos. My camera is still in the shop.. );

Double Rainbow!

Some of these are a little blurry.. rain got on the lens.

Thank your local firefighter & pray for rain!

2 Weeks In A Nutshell... Sorta

Well to start off I feel like I have been in Arizona for the past 2 weeks.

It isn't even August yet! This heat is a little ridiculous. We really, really need rain too!

---------------
For those of you who have been kinda, sorta keeping up with me; I traded off my 11-year-old horse, Gus, last week..

*sniff sniff*
The trade was with my grandpa -
My 11-year-old, broke to death ranch horse, for a yearling.
Yeah.
I'm excited & yet, really torn.

I had been trying to barrel race on Gus for 3 years & he still wasn't really getting it. My mom told me that as many times that I have taken him around the barrels & drilled the barrel racing basics into his brain (& body).. he should be able to do it riderless. He is the nicest, smartest, most gentle friend, that will do absolutely anything for you; but not the barrels.
It was hard for me to trade, but my parents thought it would be the best for everyone. He would be able to take care of my Grandpa & I would have a clean slate to start from.

Introducing...

Reno.

I love his little nose :o)

I have been working with him a little, but I'm really focusing on my 4 year old, Beans. He's going really good & I am ridin' the tar out of him everyday. He's gonna be nice!

Since we took Gus out of the bunch & put a new one in... all of the other horses, but especially the studs, are trying to reinforce their place in the pecking order. My sister wasn't able to ride either of her horses for over a week. They were beat up so bad! They were having a hard time getting around.
Reno has a hematoma right in front of his withers, that he got from one of our studs, that is draining like crazy. Which is good.
Beans has so many bite marks, it just looks bad. I almost feel bad, because I'm sure the saddle rubbing on all of his sores doesn't feel all that spectacular.

---------------
June 30th & July 1st (before we actually turned Reno out with the "Big Boys"), we went to the Kick 'Em Up Cans Barrel Race in Buffalo, Wyoming. Both of K's runs were really good! She got herself a lovely check too! I sat in the stands, trying to sell some of my jewelry & bandannas, took pictures, & lunged Beans around the track before, then after, the barrel race.
These pictures are of K & Ritz.

On our way home from Buffalo, we had a blowout on the trailer.. on the interstate..
Oh boy, my favorite.
Us 3 girls got that baby changed & were on the road lickity split!

Later that week while turning all of the bulls out here & there with cows & heifers, we discovered the dually had a flat...

Have y'all had to buy any tires lately??
They ain't cheap!

As you can imagine, my parents weren't the happiest campers.

---------------
K & I still have the phones from the Alltel/AT&T switchover... Well, they kinda crapped out on us.
We can still text! But calling is another story.
If I'm talking on the phone with someone, they can hear me, but I can't hear a stinkin' thing.
Fruuusterating.

---------------

K had been keeping her 3 year old in the corral, trying to get him to heal up a little quicker! So she goes out every night before she goes to bed to make sure he has enough hay for the night..

Last night my parents were out to dinner, so K & were engrossed in the TV eating grilled cheese.
K goes out to check her colt & I get these texts (remember - can't call)..
  • Rattle snake in barn.
  • Help.
*Panic*
  • But I'm not hurt.
  • Bring shovel.
*Sighh*
I released my inner "ninja" & ran out to the shop to grab a shovel & then rushed out to the barn.
K is sitting on the edge of the feed bunk, out of breath, looking like she saw.. well, a rattlesnake.
The blasted thing was laying on top of some hay that was on the floor, right inside the door, of the "hay room".

Okayyyyy.

Now what?!

To cut to the chase, it took me a whole 45 minutes to convince myself that I could kill it.

Excuse the crappy camera phone photo. . .

I was shaking sooo bad when I got done!

Sure I have killed snakes before.
But this would be the first rattlesnake that I haven't just parked the pickup on.

I thought I was going to cry, puke, & pee my pants all at the same time.

I'm so glad that I finally killed it though! I would have felt awful if it got away & was still lurking in the barn.

I think anyone who likes snakes is indeed strange.

---------------
OKAY, I am done now. (=
Have a great rest of the week!

Oh I forgot! My camera isn't working!!! GRRR! That's probably the main reason I haven't posted anything.. I haven't had my camera with me!! I need to get it into the shop pronto, because I'm not very happy. I didn't realize how much I used it, until I can't use it!
Thanks for listening.
I knew you would understand.
