Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Sugar Cookies

K & I make these sometimes together & the kitchen is always a mess afterwards, but we definitely have a blast! Often times, we eat too much dough before hand, we don't even want a cooked one.

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) oleo
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 t. baking soda
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 4 t. baking powder
  • 5 to 5 1/2 cups flour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Thoroughly cream oleo & sugar. Add vanilla. Add eggs & beat until light and fluffy. Mix soda & sour cream together & add to creamed mixture. Sift together baking powder & flour, then blend into creamed mixture. Dough shoud be easy to handle & roll out (not sticky). On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/8-inch thinkness. Cut into desired shapes with cutters. You can sprinkle cookies with sugar now, or wait until cooked & frost them. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 9 minutes.
Makes about 4 dozen.
Whipped Cream Frosting
  • 4 T. flour
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 t. vanilla
Cook flour & milk on stove until thickened. (Stir! Stir! Stir! Don't leave the stove!) Cool completely. Beat Crisco & sugar on high, in mixer, for about 10 minutes until you can no longer feel sugar granules (be patient...). Add milk mixture, vanilla, & food coloring if desired. Frost away & enjoy (:
